EV Charging GOV.UK Grant Funding

Government support is available to help reduce the cost of installing electric vehicle chargepoints across schools, workplaces and certain residential properties.

At EMBS, we help clients understand what funding may be available, what type of installation is suitable for their site, and how the project can be delivered properly from first enquiry through to final installation.

Whether you are looking at EV charging for a school, commercial premises or residential property, the right grant support can make a significant difference to the overall cost of the project.

What EV charging grants are Available?

There are several EV charging grants currently available in the UK to support the installation of chargepoints across schools, businesses and residential properties.

Funding is provided through the OZEV grant scheme, with different levels of support depending on the type of project. Schools and education settings can access the highest level of funding, while workplace EV charging and certain residential installations are also supported.

These grants contribute towards the supply and installation of EV chargepoints, helping to reduce upfront costs and make projects more commercially viable.

All grant funded installations must use approved chargepoints and be installed by an authorised installer to meet compliance requirements.

EV Charging Grants for
Schools

State funded schools and education institutions currently have access to one of the most beneficial funding routes available. Under the Workplace Charging Scheme for education settings, schools can receive support covering up to seventy five percent of the cost to supply and install EV chargepoints, with up to two thousand pounds available per socket.

In most cases, funding can be claimed for up to forty sockets across multiple sites. This significantly reduces the upfront investment required and allows schools to introduce EV charging infrastructure in a practical and cost effective way.

For many schools, this funding makes it possible to deliver a full installation for a relatively small contribution, particularly where future demand from staff or visitors is expected.

EV Charging Grants for Businesses

Businesses, charities and public sector organisations can access support through the Workplace Charging Scheme. This provides funding of up to five hundred pounds per socket, with a limit across multiple sites.

While the level of support is lower than the education scheme, it still offers a valuable contribution towards installation costs. For many commercial clients, EV charging is becoming an important part of wider sustainability strategies, as well as improving facilities for staff and visitors.

EV Charging Grants for
Residential Properties

Support is also available for certain residential installations. Renters and flat owners who have access to private off street parking may be eligible for funding towards the installation of a chargepoint. In addition, households without a driveway may still be able to access funding where a compliant solution is installed from the property to the roadside.

Landlords can also apply for funding across larger portfolios, helping to introduce EV charging across multiple properties. This is increasingly relevant as demand for EV charging continues to grow within the rental market.
